Metis Collective has created this privacy statement in order to demonstrate our commitment to your privacy. The following discloses our information gathering and processing practices for the Metis Collective mobile application ( https://metis-collective.com ) and communications.

Information we gather and track

Information on general usage and any optional personal details you submit to us will be used to (a) optimize your experience on the mobile application and the website, (b) improve the communication channels between you and the other members of the Metis Collective community, and (c) provide you with enhanced features such as access to special content on the application and the website, information about upcoming events or projects, relevant articles or resources, and so on.

We collect the following types of information

PERSONAL DETAILS

Metis Collective Application only accesses data needed to help the functionality of the app.

The application requires certain personal details to create your account. These include your name, email address, UDI (Unique Device ID), industry, company name (optional), areas of expertise, your billing address/preference (optional), client information (optional), and project outline (optional).  Other information that the application may access include your calendar data (by permission), data about the device’s location (by permission), and information about community members with whom you have the most interaction.

LOCATION AND USAGE INFORMATION

Your device reaches us via a particular IP (Internet Protocol) address. This can tell us things like what part of the world you’re connecting from, or what service provider you are using. We may use this information to help diagnose problems with our server, and to administer our website. Your IP address may be used to help identify you. Additionally, we track usage information within the application environment so that we can judge our system’s performance, improve your experience, and determine whether we should offer customizable features in the future. Information collected about your interactions with our application may include time of login, screens viewed, searches, files downloaded, or content viewed/shared.

COOKIES

Your device offers ‘cookies’ which, unless you disable their use, store small amounts of data on your device about your visit to the Metis Collective website, as well as any of the content sites/links shared in the application’s content feed.

Cookies, and similar technologies will help us with:

  • Authentication : each community member is provided with a unique code when he or she signs up to the application. This unique code is tied to the user’s device and gives him or her access to the application. For the application to function, we give access to a password protected AWS server (Amazon Web Services) where cookies help the application verify the login information provided by the user.
  • Site functionality : we may store information about your search history and project activity in order to streamline your use of the application (e.g., finding team members with specific skills to work on certain types of projects).
  • Site analytics: we may measure and analyze how users interact with the application in order to improve the users’ experience of the application.

You can adjust your settings to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, if you do not accept or disable cookies, your user experience could be affected, and you may not be able to use some of the features such as checking for or being found based on proximity or availability. PAYMENT INFORMATION

We store payment information about payments received through the application. We retain information about your past transactions on the application and preferred payment method (e.g., authorize.net (a Visa company), PayPal, Stripe, or a similar service, or eChecks). This is to help facilitate the payment processes as well as to adhere to tax, legal and auditing purposes.

Please note that in regions where tax is applicable, we may also request you to share your company tax reference for accounting purposes. For payments that require wire transfers, you are responsible for any special bank fees or charges for the processing of the transfer.

Your credit card details are never stored on our servers. We use a third-party provider, Stripe, to process all payments, and your payment information passes through – but is not stored – on our servers. We use SHA-256-bit with RSA Encryption to encrypt our communications with you. We chose Stripe as they have one of the highest-rated security policies and practices in the industry and also use 256-bit SSL encryption. COMMUNICATIONS

We store email and chat communications that we send and receive in order to strengthen existing relationships with members of Metis Collective and users of the application.

SURVEYS

From time to time we may send invites to complete short surveys about the application and your experience with the community. These surveys are entirely voluntary for users to complete. Surveys may ask for contact information or unique identifying information to increase the value of the results or to respond to any user suggestions or requests. Contests may require contact information or other demographic/personal information in order to determine your eligibility.

USE OF THIRD PARTIES

The Metis Collective website and application are a place for us to publish our own content, share industry information and best practices, and to inform users about available services, as well as project opportunities. Note that we will never serve you advertisements from third parties on our site, and we will never sell your information to third parties.

Metis Collective pays for services from trusted partners to help provide the community members with the best experience and meet their expectations. Examples of services provided by third parties can include payment processing, email, web development, app development, AWS, and chat communications, surveys, collection of usage data for analytics purposes, and occasionally access to paid platforms such as Survey Monkey, Trendwatching Premium, and others.

Examples of our partners include Google Analytics, AWS, and Firebase. Metis Collective uses Google Analytics to measure the effectiveness of our website, and Firebase for the effectiveness of the mobile application, in order to identify ways to improve your user experience. CONTROL OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

You have the right to access, modify or delete your personal information at any time. We will fulfil requests to your personal data within 30 days. However, please note that we may be required to keep details of past payment transactions for tax, auditing and legal purposes.

You may unsubscribe from our email communications at any time by emailing: [email protected] and stating your request.

CLIENT ACCOUNT DETAILS AND MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS

Metis Collective stores email addresses and UDI (Unique Device Identification) associated with your account. This is for us to send updates about your account, including onboarding tips, news about the community, new content alerts and notification of project expiry when applicable. Additionally, from time to time you may receive communications about events we’re hosting or additional services that you we feel might be of interest to you. Users may opt-out of receiving these communications at any time by emailing [email protected] and stating your request.

CLIENT TESTIMONIALS AND COMMENTS

We may post user and client testimonials and comments on our websites, on the application’s newsfeed which may contain your name and/or the name of your company. We never do this without first obtaining your or each client’s consent via email prior to posting the name and testimonial.

INTERNATIONAL DATA TRANSFER

As a collective with members in various countries, your Metis Collective colleagues will have access to the information that you provide when you sign up on the application. They may also use third party providers who are based internationally – for example, for processing transactions. We protect your data at all times using strict security policies, technologies and processes.

INFORMATION SECURITY

The Metis Collective app is fully encrypted using Secure Socket Layer (SSL). This means that any information you submit to us (including payment details) is given an extra layer of security to help prevent data hijacking attempts by malicious third parties, e.g. ‘man-in-the-middle’ attacks.

Note that while we take every step and precaution to safeguard your data, please remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your Personal Information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Additionally, we ensure that access to your information is restricted only to members of the Metis Collective or partners who are required to process this kind of data in order to provide our services.

LINKS TO OTHER SITES

Our newsfeed contains links to articles, videos, or information that is hosted on other sites that are not operated by us. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that third party’s site. We strongly advise you to review the privacy policy of every site you visit.

We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies or practices of any third-party sites or services.

ACCESS TO THE COMMUNITY

Our Service is only available to carefully vetted industry experts. To join Metis Collective, you need to be approved by the community manager and provided with a unique code to access the community through the mobile application. One you are approved and provided access to the community, you are responsible for keeping your personal identification information (i.e., login and password) secure.

If you suspect that someone may be using your personal login and password to access the application and/or impersonate you on the platform, please contact us immediately and request a change of password. If we discover (based on your past usage data) that there is unusual activity on the platform under your account information, we may lock the account temporarily until we contact you (typically within 24 hours) to verify and confirm the activity.

CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY

Metis Collective may make changes to this privacy policy from time to time but be assured that we will notify clients of any significant changes by email or through on-screen notifications when visiting the website and the application.

If you do not agree with changes to the privacy policy, we advise that you stop using our services and you can request to deactivate your account.

We encourage you to review our privacy policy each time you use our services. You can always find the latest version of the policy linked within the application (under “profile”) or on the website metis-collective.com or upon request via [email protected].
